Recently Jucke wrote a cool article about online education. (if you haven’t seen Jucke’s blog, check it out — jucke.com)

One of my favorite resources from the list is Skillshare. I’ve seen it launch, and the idea of the project sounded cool, but there were very few classes at the time, so I’ve forgotten about it for a while. Recently I’ve rediscovered Skillshare, now it has much more to propose to designers and illustrators. I decided to try it and signed up for an upcoming class and “watch” a few others. Many of the classes I’m considering taking are part of Skillshare’s School of Design. It has quite a few awesome ones, with great teachers. These are few upcoming courses I like:

Recently I’ve finished a sequel to “Hand-drawn holiday icons set, Part 1: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween“. This time it’s gonna be all about St.Valentine’s Day, St.Patrick’s Day, Easter and Independence Day (4th of July). The set contains 110 vector icons that will work great in web design and apps, as well as in greeting cards, posters, t-shirts, brochures or any other print media.

The best logo of 2012

Working in branding and corporate identity fields and seeing hundreds of logos every month is easy to get “I’ve seen it all” attitude. It’s getting hard to get surprised and excited about new logos I see. But this happened to me last week when I’ve seen this logo… So without further ado I want to grant my personal The Best Logo of 2012 Award to… World Chess by great Pentagram.

This logo is super classic, yet looks fresh and cool. It is simple, yet deep and mesmerisingly beautiful. It is a cocktail of history, art, mathematics and philosophy. That’s why I fell in love with it from the first sight.

To get more prospective and find out about new trends in logo design, you might like to check annual research by Logo Lounge — 2012 Logo Trends. However, I think, this article misses massive trend of retro logos that rages in design communities.

100 Hand-drawn Fitness and Health Icons

Here’s a new addition to my hand-drawn collection — 100 Hand-drawn Fitness and Health Icons. It was hard to include everything related to sport, health and fitness to the set. The topic is too extensive. But I tried to touch the most used areas, like diets, bodybuilding, yoga, losing weight and so on. Hand-Drawn UI Kit

Interface design is so hot these days. There are numerous interface design kits available for sale or for free. Most of them are all shiny and very detailed. Some are futuristic, like from starship dashboard, others are retro or mimicking real-life objects, like notebook pages, ribbons, buttons, etc. I wanted to go other way and doodled all most common interface design elements. I was certainly fun!

So now I have this huge set of hand-drawn elements containing most used web UI and some app UI elements. All the items are originally hand-crafted and then vectorized, so they are 100% vector shapes and can be resized or edited without any loss of quality.

It turned to be a very nice event, thanks to all the participants for the great time and inspirational talks! Park Cafe and Wutune

We’ve added two new projects into corporate identity section of our portfolio.

Park Cafe is a cozy European style wine bar & bakery in the center of Kyiv, Ukraine. We’ve created the logo, business cards, menu and some signage. Check it out!

Wutune Learning is a Chinese company created to help young people learn digital arts and embrace modern digital media. The logo had to convey the ideas of future and technology. We were assigned to develop a logo, stationery and presentation templates. The whole story is here.

Portfolio update: Happy Farm Website

It’s been a long while since we updated our portfolio the last time, and now is a moment to fix this. We’ll start with one of our favorites of the year — website for start-up incubator Happy Farm.

Last year we’ve designed logotype and visual identity for this bright company. And this year was a time for a website. We’ve created colorful illustrated website to express creative dynamic spirit of the company. Besides colourful presentational part of the website, we’ve designed interface for start-up project submission and evaluation. Programming, CMS and technical support was provided by Yedynka (Ukraine) team.

The ‘Ecology and Peace’ foundation

Recently we’ve been proud to be working on a website of the “Ecology and Peace” Foundation, which is a great organization that promotes environmental protection and creates amazing cultural, social and ecological projects. We hope our work will somehow contribute to our planet and will help it become at least a tiny little bit greener and cleaner. So we made the website very green. And very clean.

Brand new HATCHERS

We’ve been many things before. We worked in different companies or independently. And then one day we’ve realized that we can do greater things together. And we became Hatchers. Not right away. After fiery arguments and hundreds of rejected names (how about “Jod’s Bone”? (coming from “Job’s Done”)).

And this is our new logo. It’s bold and funky, serious and kinda whimsical at the same time. It means many things. But that’s us. Let us know what do you think.

We are happy to announce that 8 of our logo works have been selected for the new Logo Lounge book!

Logo Lounge is a series of books on logo & identity design, as well as online logo database. Annual Logo Lounge book showcase selected logos from the best designers around the world.

With over 36,000 logos submitted for Logo Lounge Vol. 7, only 2000 that could make the cut, and had been chosen by an international panel of judges. We are thrilled to hear that 8 our logos are to be published in Logo Lounge Vol. 7, coming out in July 2012. Can’t wait to get ourselves a copy!

New work: ohana.ru

We are happy to present new website for Ohana kitesurfing center. This project involved two our favorite superpowers: illustration and back-end coding.

Ohana’s motto is a quote from Lilo and Stitch: “Ohana” means “family.” And “family” means no one gets left behind.” We wish that this new ground will become a stable base for Ohana’s growing family of kitesurfing aficionados.
